As seen above, my real name is Anne Bordeaux. I was always supposed to be Anne Bordeaux, but plans changed once I was born and my parents started introducing me. Anne Bordeaux didn’t exactly roll off the tongue and those that met me seemed to collectively agree that my name was “Amber Doe.” A few months later, my parents, not wishing to raise me with a name that was half mispronunciation and half female deer, began to write ABY–my initials–on all of my things. This prompted my grandmother to suggest, “Well, why don’t we just call her Abbey? Abbey spelled with an ‘e’ like Westminster Abbey?” And with that suggestion, I’ve been Abbey with an ‘e’ ever since.
